Headspace is a wellness app that guides you in doing meditation, and teaches you useful mindfulness skills. I think it’s totally worth it since the meditations are easy to follow and overall experience is great.

Headspace is a wellness app that teaches you to achieve happiness and peace of mind through properly formulated meditation sessions and exercises. Its exercises will help you manage your stress, anxiety, improve your focus, happiness, creativity, and sleep.

Who Is The Headspace App For?

Headspace is for anyone who wants to meditate. It has content for beginner  and experts but it is mostly beginner focused. 

It has mostly guided meditations that can help a beginner understand meditation.

How Does Headspace App Work?

Once you sign up for the app, everyday it greets you with a mindful activity, breathing exercise.

Then there’s Wake Up, it contains a short video explaining the concept, you can skip over a certain part of the clip. Then it’s followed by a 3-20 minute meditation, you can choose if you want a 3, 5 or more minutes of meditation.

It also provides focus music for 1– minutes as afternoon lifts.

At night, it provides a 45 minute sleep cast.

Features of Headspace App

Headspace has a lot of features. I’ll try to list some of them below:

Meditate 

This is where you can easily access any meditation. It has short guided meditations. There are usually two options, Male and female guided voice.

The male voice is of Andy Puddicombe, Cofounder of Headspace App and a former Buddhist Monk. He has a soothing voice.

Courses and singles:

These have courses from beginner to advanced level. Singles also have meditations for kids.

These are guided meditation for any moment that you can access at any time.

SOS:

These are for when you really need a break. When you’re overwhelmed, panicking or losing your temper. These are quick meditations for emergency situations.

Timers: 

You can choose the length of the meditation and you can choose whether you want a guided meditation or unguided.

Technique: 

Headspace teaches 8 core techniques. From focused attention to body scan to visualization.

Personally, I found body scanning most helpful. We hold so much tension in our body and it feels calming to release all the tension and relax.

Group Meditation:

This feature is available in Headspace Plus. You can do group meditation with other headspace plus members.

Sleep

This feature is for a relaxing sleep experience. 

Sleep Casts: 

You can sleep listening to stories in a calm soothing voice.

Wind downs:

It has meditation and breathing exercises to help your mind prepare for sleep 

Nighttime SOS: 

This is for when you wake up in the middle of the night, either randomly or due to panic, nightmares or pain. These guided exercises help you.

This feature is for workouts.

This contains

Mindful cardios, Yoga classes for waking up and sleeping, quick, mini workouts that you can fit in your busy schedule. Mind training on rest days and mental fitness inspired by NBA and WNBA athletes. There’s move courses for beginners too.

Focus

This plays Focus music and exercise, and soundscapes.

User Experience

The design for the app is simple, easy to use. The app is very easy to use.

You can just understand it by just taking a look at it. It’s a beginner friendly app.

The courses are mainly for beginners and are mostly guided. The content is very customizable and it has a user friendly interface.

There are animations and short video infographics to explain everything. It’s available for Apple iOS and android phones.
